The pesky 'hiding' virus
Saturday July 16, 2011
There's a pernicious little virus going around, and one of the main features of this annoying vermin is that it hides, and moves, user data!
If you are stricken with this malady, you can un-hide your data with the following command:
attrib *. -h -s /s /d
Of course, in addition to un-hiding your files, you will need to clean the virus/malware off of your system! Then, you will wonder, "Self, where are my documents, quick launch items, and start menu items?"
These items can be located in the following location(s):
· Start menu : C:Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\smtmp\1
· Quick launch : C:Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\smtmp\2
· Desktop items : C:Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temp\smtmp\4
This is a particularly annoying and destructive program, so if you do encounter it, don't hesitate to contact us for a swift resolution.
